G9 LED lamp: capsule lamps in warm white and daylight white

A G9 LED lamp is the small capsule lamp with two pins that you find in many ceiling lights, wall lights, pendant lights and floor lamps. It runs directly on 230 volts, without a transformer, and replaces the halogen G9. Here you will find G9 LED lamps from 2 to 5 watts.

Which G9 LED lamp should you choose?

• Frosted or clear: frosted (matt) gives soft, diffuse light, like the G9 capsule lamp frosted 2.5W. Clear gives a brighter, sharper glow.
• Wattage: 2W replaces roughly 18 to 21W halogen, 3.5W about 30W and 5W about 50W. See also What is a lumen?.
• Dimmable: the G9 capsule lamp 5W dimmable with triac is suitable for mood lighting. Use a dimmer that is suitable for LED, see Dimmable LED lamps and dimmers.

Watch out with small fixtures

A G9 lamp often sits in a compact or closed fixture. Check the maximum length and maximum wattage of your fixture and switch off the power before you replace a lamp. For a warm, cosy light choose 2700K to 3000K and for a bright light daylight white 6500K, see LED colour temperature.
